Kangpokpi gets unified transport body as district taxi owners & drivers association launched

In a major step toward regulating passenger transport and improving public mobility, the Kangpokpi District Taxi Owners and Drivers Association was formally launched today at Saparmeina, marking a new chapter in the district’s transport landscape.

The inauguration ceremony, held in the presence of community leaders, transport stakeholders and representatives from various civil bodies, underscored the need for a unified, disciplined and accountable transport framework in Kangpokpi district.

Rev. Onthang Haokip, Pastor of Centre Church Salem Village, Saparmeina, formally inaugurated the association and offered special prayers for its journey ahead.

Speaking at the event, Association President Hengam said the newly formed body aims to ensure safe, reliable and affordable taxi services across the district. He noted that a regulated association would not only safeguard the interests of drivers and vehicle owners but also support the administration in maintaining traffic discipline and public safety.

Association Secretary Nouwie highlighted the priorities of the new body, which include:

fostering unity and cooperation among taxi drivers and owners;

ensuring fair fare systems and passenger-friendly services;

improving driver discipline, road safety and grievance redressal mechanisms;

acting as a vital link between the transport community and district authorities;

promoting employment stability and welfare initiatives for its members.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to uphold integrity, professionalism and service excellence.

With its establishment, the Kangpokpi District Taxi Owners and Drivers Association is expected to bring better regulation, improved service standards and a more community-centric approach to transport — benefitting both commuters and the driving fraternity across the district.
