Kangpokpi’s annual inter-ward sports tournament KIWT 2026 concludes with solid waste management drive
The 19th Kanggui Inter Ward Tournament (KIWT) 2026, an annual inter-ward sports competition that brings together teams from all wards of Kangpokpi town to promote sportsmanship, youth participation and community unity, concluded on a high note with a Solid Waste Management Awareness Campaign at Brig. M. Thomas Ground.
The awareness campaign was organised by the Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council (SHADC), Kangpokpi, during the closing ceremony of the three-week-long tournament. Banners carrying environmental messages such as “Think Green, Act Green, Go Green to Breathe Clean” were displayed across the ground and at key locations in Kangpokpi town to spread awareness on cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
Organised by the Kangpokpi Youth Union (KYU), KIWT 2026 featured teams representing various wards of Kangpokpi town competing in main football, veteran football, and volleyball events for both men and women. The tournament has over the years emerged as Kangpokpi district’s premier sporting platform.
Beyond competition, KIWT aims to foster social harmony, strengthen inter-ward bonds and promote unity through healthy sporting rivalry. The tournament has consistently highlighted the role of sports as a unifying force in community development across the district.
The closing ceremony was attended by James Doujapao Haokip, MCS, Chief Executive Officer, SHADC Kangpokpi, as chief guest on behalf of local MLA Nemcha Kipgen. Samuel Misao, MCS, SDO Lhungtin, attended as guest of honour, while Inspector H. Kipgen, Officer-in-Charge of Kangpokpi Police Station, presided over the programme as functional president. Rev. Fr. Jangkhogin Chongloi attended the event as the minister.
Members of the Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation, Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, Kuki Women Union Sadar Hills, Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Sadar Hills, along with representatives of various civil society organisations, were also present.
