Manipur BJP has lodged separate FIRs against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and state Congress leaders for their remarks targeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late mother, and the BJP-RSS.
At a press conference in Imphal, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary K. Saratkumar said the complaint against Mahua Moitra was filed after she allegedly stated that Shah should be “beheaded and his head should be put on a table.” Calling the remark “highly condemnable and uncalled for,” Saratkumar warned such statements could provoke unrest.
The party also filed a case against a Congress leader for allegedly abusing the late mother of Prime Minister Modi. Saratkumar said, “Such unparliamentary and highly disrespectful remarks against the mother of a country’s prime minister are uncalled for and unheard of in the civilisational culture of this country.”
In addition, FIRs were registered against Sakir Ahmed, chairperson of the OBC department of Manipur Congress, over social media posts accusing the BJP and RSS of attempting to engineer communal tensions between Meiteis and Muslims ahead of elections. BJP leaders said the Congress has failed to clarify its position on the issue. “We strongly condemn such statements from the Congress as we have not thought of such a situation in our dreams,” Saratkumar added.
Responding to questions about the prime minister’s possible visit to Manipur, the BJP leader said, “We are yet to receive any official directives concerning Modi’s visit. The itinerary and other details are yet to be shared with us.”
On the broader political situation, Saratkumar alleged that Congress was not interested in resolving the conflict in Manipur. “Congress doesn’t want a solution to the conflict in the state. They want chaos and unrest to continue till 2027 and get into elections,” he said.
He further maintained that the BJP is more eager to form a popular government in the state compared to the Congress.
