Manipur BJP MLAs discuss party revival and state leadership with central leaders
A meeting between BJP legislators from Manipur and senior party figures BL Santosh and Sambit Patra concluded on November 12, with discussions centring on revitalising the party’s organisational strength and preparing for the 2027 state elections.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting at Thambal Shanglen, MLA T Robindro said the talks primarily focused on “strengthening the BJP in the state and planning how to come back in 2027”. He added that the central leaders were aware of the public sentiment in Manipur.
While the main agenda was party restructuring, several MLAs reportedly raised the issue of reinstating a popular government in the state. “We know people of the state are not happy with us,” Robindro admitted. “When they have any problem, they are confused about where to complain due to the absence of a popular government. We hope that the central leaders who are here also know everything about this.”
Addressing questions about internal disagreements, Robindro dismissed speculation of any conflict among BJP MLAs over the choice of chief minister. He said they were united in seeking “any chief minister who can listen to everyone’s voice”.
“The CM has to be selected by the central leaders. So we demanded a leader who understands the problems of everyone,” he added.
MLA Sapam Ranjan echoed similar sentiments, stating that while the meeting was mainly about “strengthening the party in the state”, the formation of a new government was also part of the discussion.
