Manipur CLP leader condemns killing of Manipuri man in Delhi, seeks time-bound probe

Manipur Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader K Meghachandra has condemned the killing of Manipuri man C Vikram Singh in Delhi, calling it “inhuman” and demanding an impartial and time-bound investigation into the incident.

Reacting to the death of Vikram, Meghachandra said the incident was deeply unfortunate and heartbreaking, particularly as many Manipuris live in Delhi for education, employment and other purposes.

“I strongly condemn such type of killing. This type of killing is very inhuman and really heartbreaking,” he said.

The CLP leader alleged that the incident highlighted the discrimination faced by people from the Northeast in Delhi and questioned why such incidents continue to occur in the national capital.

“Manipuris are also Indians. Why are such things of racism happening in Delhi nowadays? Why is the Indian government not stopping this type of racism in Delhi?” he asked.

Meghachandra urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take the issue seriously, claiming that people from Manipur and other Northeastern states feel unsafe in Delhi.

He demanded an impartial and time-bound investigation and strict punishment for those responsible. He also said the involvement of a juvenile among the accused should not dilute the seriousness of the crime.

Questioning whether such an incident would have occurred if the victims belonged to the local population, Meghachandra alleged that people from the Northeast continue to face discrimination because of their identity.

“Under this BJP government, Manipuris are not safe. The entire Northeast people are not safe in Delhi,” he said.

He called for stronger action in cases involving violence against people from Manipur and the Northeast, warning that failure to punish perpetrators in previous cases could encourage similar incidents.

“There should be strong instructions and strong punishment so that this type of incident will not happen in the future,” he said.

Appealing to people in Delhi and elsewhere in mainland India, Meghachandra said people from Manipur and the Northeast should be recognised as equal citizens of the country.

“The people of Delhi, the mainland people, should also understand that the Manipuris and the people of the Northeast are Indians,” he said.
