Manipur CM flags off advanced police vehicles under modernisation scheme

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand on Monday, May 25, flagged off newly acquired advanced vehicles for the Manipur Police Department as part of the state’s police modernisation initiative.

The flag-off ceremony was held at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal in the presence of Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel and other senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, the chief minister praised the contribution of the police department during the ongoing conflict situation in the state and said the force has played a commendable role in maintaining law and order.

He also highlighted the achievements of police personnel in sports alongside their security responsibilities.

The chief minister expressed concern over incidents of violence during protests and agitations, stating that while people have the democratic right to demonstrate, violent means should be avoided.

Speaking at the event, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said nearly 400 advanced vehicles had been inducted under the police modernisation scheme, which would significantly improve mobility and operational efficiency of the force.

He also appreciated the efforts of the DGP in procuring advanced weapons and equipment to strengthen law enforcement capabilities in the state.

According to the home minister, 54 per cent of the newly inducted vehicles will be deployed in the hill districts, while 46 per cent will be used in the valley areas.

He further stated that more sophisticated equipment would be procured to strengthen cyber crime investigation and tackle technology-related offences effectively.

Referring to the issue of six hostages, Konthoujam said the government was in talks with various civil society organisations and that operations were underway in connection with the matter.
