Manipur CM reaches Senapati via NH-2, first such visit since 2023 violence

Yumnam Khemchand on April 10 reached Senapati after travelling by road along National Highway-2, becoming the first Chief Minister to undertake the route since the outbreak of ethnic violence on May 3, 2023.

The Chief Minister’s convoy moved through sensitive stretches, including the Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi district, amid heightened and multi-layered security deployment. Authorities had intensified vigil along the NH-2 corridor in advance, with additional forces stationed at key نقاط to ensure a secure passage.

During the visit, Khemchand inaugurated a multi-level parking facility with a 147-vehicle capacity, integrated with an Inter-State and Inter-District Agriculture and Economic Transportation Hub at the Senapati district headquarters. He also inaugurated multi-purpose community buildings at Khabaduikung and Sangkumei villages, and laid the foundation stone for 69 Anganwadi centre buildings under the SASCI scheme.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to address a public gathering and hold interactions with civil society organisation leaders as part of the outreach.

The visit follows his recent road journey to Jiribam via NH-37, undertaken as part of a broader peace outreach initiative. Officials described the back-to-back road visits as calibrated confidence-building measures aimed at restoring administrative reach and public trust in violence-affected regions.

Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho had arrived in Senapati earlier to oversee preparations and security coordination for the high-profile visit.
