Manipur CM sees off Kuki-Zo MLA Vungzagin Valte to Delhi for advanced treatment

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on February 8, saw off Kuki-Zo legislator and Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte at Imphal Airport as he was airlifted to New Delhi for advanced medical treatment at Medanta – The Medicity Hospital, Gurugram.

Valte, who sustained grievous injuries during the ethnic violence in May 2023, had been staying in Churachandpur after undergoing prolonged treatment in Delhi. His health condition deteriorated on February 7, following which he was rushed to Churachandpur Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for stabilisation.

The Chief Minister closely monitored Valte’s health condition throughout the night and immediately dispatched an advanced life-support ambulance along with a team of doctors from Imphal to Churachandpur around midnight. Doctors in Imphal remained in constant touch with the medical team at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital through tele-conferencing.

Taking personal care of the situation, the Chief Minister arranged an air ambulance to evacuate the BJP MLA for specialised treatment outside the state. Valte’s condition remained critical during the night but showed improvement on February 8.

Following stabilisation, the MLA was shifted from Churachandpur Medical College Hospital around 3:00 pm, accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of the district. BJP legislators Tongbram Robindro Singh and Sanasam Premchandra Singh escorted him from Phoujakhai village to Imphal Airport.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh met Valte and his family members at Imphal Airport and wished him a speedy recovery. “Pu Valte, please come back after you have fully recovered. I will wait for your return,” the Chief Minister said.

The air ambulance carrying Valte departed from Imphal Airport at around 4:30 pm for New Delhi.
