Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on May 16 visited the National Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West district to review the progress of ongoing infrastructure development works at the campus.

During the visit, the Chief Minister praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing the country’s only National Sports University in Manipur, describing it as a prestigious project for the state and the nation.

The Chief Minister was received by Vice-Chancellor Daljit Singh Chaudhary, former Director General of the Border Security Force, along with senior university officials.

A review meeting was held at the university’s academic building, where officials of the National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) briefed the Chief Minister on the status of construction activities at the campus.

According to the officials, the new campus will include 60 faculty residential units and a multi-purpose sports hall spread across the ground and first floors.

Addressing concerns raised by university authorities, the Chief Minister announced that construction of the approach road to the campus would begin next week. He also stated that around six borewells would be dug as a temporary measure to address water shortages in the area.

Khemchand Singh further assured that adequate security personnel would be deployed, if necessary, to ensure smooth and uninterrupted execution of the ongoing works.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister said the university campus would have an intake capacity of around 1,300 students and expressed hope that the project would be completed by the end of the year.

The meeting was attended by MLAs Heikham Dingo Singh and Tongbram Robindro Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh and other senior officials.

On his return from the university, the Chief Minister also stopped at the Koutruk Community Hall, where he interacted with local villagers and assured them that their grievances would be addressed.
