After Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh tendered an apology to the people of the state, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha slammed the statement, stating that "the sorry should have come earlier."
Reiterating the importance of justice for "restoration of normalcy and peace in the state," Jha said that the Manipur chief minister has kept his remorse in "denial mode".
Jha questioned Singh's 'sorry' after 18-19 months of conflict, stating that the apology will not benefit ruptured relationships.
"Restoration of normalcy and peace in the state is most important today," Jha said, further urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the state at least once. He added that PM Modi's presence in the state will lead to healing.
He also stressed on the need for justice to bring about healing in the state, further slamming the Centre and the state government for failing to change the scenario.
"The government there and the central government have failed in this matter," the RJD MP said.
On December 31, Manipur CM Singh expressed deep regret and issued a heartfelt apology to the people of the state during a public event.
"I feel regret, and I want to say sorry to the people of Manipur for what has been happening. Many people lost their lives and were rendered homeless. I really feel regret and apologize to all victims," Singh stated.
