The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of focusing more on “spoiling” Manipur than bringing peace, prosperity, and development to the conflict-ridden state.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 81st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, Meghachandra said that the Congress has lost all confidence in the BJP’s ability to restore normalcy in Manipur. “We don’t believe that BJP will bring peace, progress, and prosperity. Their weak leadership has only pushed the state into chaos, administrative failure, and financial crisis,” he stated.
As part of the programme, a bike rally under the theme “Communal Harmony and National Integration” (Sadbhavana Diwas 2025) was flagged off from Congress Bhawan. The rally traversed through major routes including North AOC (Thangmeiband A/C), Hatta Telipati (Wangkhei A/C), Khurai Lamlong Bazar (Khurai A/C), Heingang A/C, Sekmai A/C, Lamlai A/C, and concluded at Iroisemba (Uripok A/C).
Meghachandra stressed that Rajiv Gandhi’s ideology of peace, harmony, and integrity remains relevant in the current turmoil facing Manipur. He said that remembering and following these values is crucial for healing divisions in society.
The ceremony was attended by former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, senior Congress leaders, and office bearers of the MPCC.
