Manipur Congress launches organisational overhaul in Sadar Hills under Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan

In a concerted effort to revive and restructure the Congress party’s organisational framework in Sadar Hills, senior leaders deputed by the Indian National Congress under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (SSA) held an extensive interaction with party workers and office bearers at NC Event Hall in Sapermeina, Kangpokpi district.

The initiative follows directives from AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, who have called for a structured rebuilding of the Congress base across the Northeast. The engagement focused on revitalising grassroots networks, strengthening booth-level structures and ensuring accountability within the party’s district units.

The delegation was led by AICC Secretary and Manipur In-Charge Christopher Tilak, accompanied by HC Yogesh, AICC Observer for the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan to the Sadar Hills District Congress Committee (DCC), and Anwar Hussain, Secretary of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and SSA Observer for Sadar Hills. The team was received by local DCC leaders, reflecting renewed enthusiasm within the district unit.

The meeting, moderated by Dr Lamtinthang Haokip, Vice President of the MPCC and PCC member from 51-Saitu, saw detailed deliberations on structural reforms, cadre mobilisation, internal coordination and strategies to reconnect with grassroots workers. Leaders emphasised discipline, inclusivity and performance-based organisational culture as key pillars for rebuilding the party.

Block-level restructuring, reconstitution of frontal organisations and strengthening of the Mahila Congress and Youth Congress wings were discussed at length. Observers sought candid feedback from workers on organisational gaps and outreach challenges in the district.

Among those present were Sadar Hills DCC Working President Andrew Gangmei, District Mahila President Neinu Kipgen, DCC General Secretary JR Rangsonglar Chiru, along with office bearers from the Mahila and Youth Congress units of 46-Saikul, 50-Kangpokpi and 51-Saitu Assembly segments.

HC Yogesh asserted that the selection of DCC presidents in Manipur, including Sadar Hills, would be conducted through a “free, fair and transparent” process without political interference. He said the process is open to all eligible Congress workers, from grassroots cadre members to senior leaders, with merit and organisational contribution serving as the sole criteria.

“Anyone can apply. Anyone can contest. Within a month, a deserving leader can emerge as the District Congress President purely on merit,” he stated, adding that lobbying and recommendation-based appointments would no longer determine leadership positions.

Yogesh stressed that the newly elected district leadership would be entrusted with strengthening the party ahead of upcoming elections in Manipur. He assured that the AICC would stand firmly behind the elected leadership in preparing for future electoral contests.

Dr Haokip described the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan as a “turning point” for Congress in Sadar Hills, calling it a serious organisational audit aimed at rebuilding credibility and energising cadre strength. He said the exercise involves consultation with all blocks, stakeholders and party workers to ensure a transparent and inclusive process.

With renewed focus from the central leadership and visible organisational mobilisation on the ground, the Congress appears to be recalibrating its strategy in Sadar Hills, a politically significant region in Manipur’s evolving landscape.
