Manipur: CoTU temporarily halts 48-hour economic blockade following assurances from authorities
The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, has announced the temporary suspension of its planned 48-hour economic blockade along National Highway-2 (NH-2), initially scheduled from midnight of October 7 to October 9, 2025.
The decision follows assurances from the Government of India, communicated via the district administrator, to take immediate action in resolving the abduction case of Kamginlen Chongloi, who was abducted at Makhan on October 2, 2025. Authorities also committed to enhancing security preparedness across buffer zones in the area.
CoTU clarified that the suspension of the blockade is being made in good faith. However, the organisation reserved the right to reinstate the economic blockade without prior notice should the authorities fail to meet their commitments within the agreed timeframe.
In a statement, CoTU expressed deep gratitude to the general public and civil organisations for their steadfast support, resilience, and solidarity during the period of agitation
