Manipur DGP Mukesh Singh visits Kangpokpi, holds security review and civil society consultations

Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) Mukesh Singh on Sunday, June 7, undertook his maiden visit to Kangpokpi district, holding a series of meetings with district police officials, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and representatives of Kuki-Zo civil society organisations amid the continuing security and ethnic challenges in Manipur.

The visit is being seen as a significant outreach initiative by the state's top police leadership and an opportunity to directly assess the prevailing law and order situation in one of Manipur’s most sensitive districts.

Mukesh Singh was received at the Superintendent of Police (SP) Office in Kangpokpi by representatives of several Kuki-Zo civil society organisations led by Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM). Community leaders welcomed the DGP with bouquets and traditional shawls as a gesture of goodwill and cooperation.

The DGP was accompanied by Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Lhari Dorjee, IPS, along with other senior police officials. The visit underscored the Manipur Police leadership’s efforts to maintain direct engagement with stakeholders at the grassroots level amid the evolving security situation in the state.

During an interaction with civil society representatives, Kuki Inpi Manipur submitted a three-page memorandum detailing concerns and demands of the Kuki-Zo community in relation to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The memorandum reportedly highlighted issues concerning security, protection of civilian lives, restoration of public confidence and the need for impartial enforcement of law and order.

Earlier, the DGP chaired a comprehensive review meeting with district police officers at the conference hall of the SP Office. The meeting was attended by ADGP (Training) Lunsieh Kipgen, IPS, Superintendent of Police Kangpokpi Rahul Gupta, IPS, and other senior district police personnel. Discussions focused on the prevailing security environment and operational preparedness in the district.

As part of the visit, Mukesh Singh also met CRPF officials deployed in Kangpokpi. The discussions reportedly centred on the current security scenario, coordination between state police and central forces, area domination measures and strategies aimed at maintaining peace and stability in sensitive areas.

The visit comes at a time when Kangpokpi continues to remain a focal point of security and humanitarian concerns arising from the prolonged ethnic conflict in Manipur.

The visit concluded with assurances of continued engagement between law enforcement agencies and civil society organisations. Stakeholders expressed hope that strengthened coordination and sustained dialogue would contribute to improved security and a more stable environment for residents of the district.
