Manipur: Family, community leaders depart for Dimapur to receive Air India crash victim's body

Family members and community representatives from Kangpokpi set out early Thursday, June 19 morning for Dimapur Airport to receive the mortal remains of Lamnunthem Singson, a victim of the recent Air India crash.

The first convoy, comprising five vehicles and including Singson's immediate family, close relatives, and local civil society leaders, departed Kangpokpi around 5:00 a.m.

A second, larger convoy of approximately ten vehicles followed at 7:30 a.m., led by members of the Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH) and the Sadar Hills Private Schools’ Association (SHIPS).

The body of the deceased, escorted by two elder brothers and a cousin, was flown from Ahmedabad at approximately 8:00 a.m. and is scheduled to arrive at Dimapur Airport around 1:45 p.m.

A condolence service is planned at the Dimapur Airport under the banner of the Kuki Union Dimapur. Representatives of the Naga Council Dimapur and the Director of the Airport Authority of India, Dimapur, are also expected to attend the solemn ceremony.

After the service, the entourage will make the return journey to Kangpokpi. The final leg is expected to be slow, with the convoy likely to reach by 9:00 or 10:00 p.m., accounting for poor road conditions and condolence stops from well-wishers and community members along the route.
