Manipur: Fresh violence erupts in Kangpokpi, no casualty reported

Fresh violence erupted in the adjoining areas of Kangpokpi and Imphal West district as armed miscreants launched an attack from Phaileng Village under Kangpokpi district this afternoon, according to reliable sources. The miscreants fired several rounds of gunshots.

The targeted area included the vicinity of Sekmai River, where many laborers were engaged in their work. Upon the sudden attack, panic ensued among the workers, prompting them to flee the area. There have been no reported casualties thus far.

The gunfight continued late into the evening, with no signs of abating.

In response to the escalating violence, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, condemned the unabated aggression.

Ng. Lun Kipgen, the Media Cell Coordinator of CoTU, decried the fresh attack at Phaileng-Luwangsanggol villages as a calculated to salvage their tarnished image following their interference in the recently concluded first phase Lok Sabha Polls.

Kipgenrecounted the events of April 14 at Phailengmol, marking it as one of the most egregious violations of human rights in recent memory.

Expressing disappointment at the lack of action from relevant authorities in response to the Phailengmol incident, Kipgen asserted that this inaction empowered armed miscreants leading to another attack on the Kuki-Zo just a week later.

"Enough is enough. How many more sacrifices must we make to maintain peace in the region? The central government must intervene," Kipgen demanded.

The Committee on Tribal Unity denounced the assault on the Phaileng-Luwangsanggol area, branding it as a brutal and unjustified act of aggression.

Regarding the tragic killing of Phailengmol on April 14, Ng. Lun Kipgen mentioned that a petition has been submitted to the relevant district authority. He also hinted that if the case involving the killing of two Kuki-Zo volunteers in Phailengmol is not resolved promptly, extreme measures may be considered.
