Manipur Governor distributes 15th Manipur State Film Awards 2023

The 15th Manipur State Film Awards for the year 2023 were distributed today at the Palace Auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) in Imphal. Governor of Manipur, Miss Anusuiya Uikey, graced the occasion and honored stalwarts and rising stars of Manipuri cinema.

Moirangthem Nilamani Singh, a luminary in the world of Manipuri cinema, was bestowed with the prestigious MSFDS Lifetime Achievement Award 2023 for his remarkable contributions. Aribam Syam Sharma, a renowned figure in Manipuri cinema and recipient of the MSFDS Lifetime Achievement Award 2010, was also felicitated during the ceremony.

The event witnessed the recognition of outstanding talent across various categories, with awards presented to winners in Manipuri and Tribal Cinema. Notable among the awardees was revered playback singer Smt. Chongtham Kamala, who clinched the Best Voice-Over/Narration award.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Uikey stated the enduring legacy of Manipuri cinema, which has evolved over four decades from humble beginnings with 35mm black and white films to embracing the digital era. She hailed the Manipur State Film Awards as a cornerstone of cinematic excellence in the state, akin to the prestigious National Film Awards, celebrating diverse talents and contributions.

Despite struggling with challenges such as limited resources and technical constraints, Governor Uikey commended the resilience of Manipuri filmmakers in crafting compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. Stressing the societal impact of cinema, she urged filmmakers to produce content that inspires youth to champion righteousness and attain national acclaim.

Governor Uikey applauded the tireless efforts of the MSFDS in promoting art and culture, asserting that such initiatives elevate the cultural landscape of Manipur. She expressed confidence in the society-transforming potential of cinema and called for collective efforts to maintain peace and harmony, preserving the age-old tradition of coexistence.

The ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of a photo gallery and the inspection of the S.N. Chand Cinema Archive & Museum at the Palace Auditorium. Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi and Commissioner (Art & Culture) M. Joy Singh were among the dignitaries present at the event.
