Manipur: KMT Jangnoi clinch victory in Assam Rifles’ peace and friendship volleyball tournament

The grand finale of the Peace and Friendship Men’s Volleyball Tournament, jointly organised by the 16 Assam Rifles and Kangpokpi Youth Union, brought Kangpokpi District Headquarters alive with electrifying energy today. The sporting spectacle, held at the district’s Sports Complex, reaffirmed the Assam Rifles’ unwavering mission of fostering peace, unity, and friendship among communities in the region.


KMT Jangnoi overpowered Danger Boys in four closely fought sets (25-13, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21) to claim the prestigious Champion Trophy. The stands erupted with thunderous cheers as the players displayed exceptional skill and sportsmanship, capturing the very essence of the tournament’s purpose.


The closing ceremony was attended by Brig. Anshuman Tripathi, DIG, 22 Sector Assam Rifles, as the Chief Guest, alongside Col. Sandeep Sharma, Commandant of 16th Battalion Assam Rifles, and SP Kangpokpi Manoj Prabhakar, IPS. Esteemed local leaders, including Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills President Thangminlen Kipgen, Kuki Inpi Saikul President Thangkam Lupheng, CoTU Chairman Thanglen Kipgen, NS Gangte, KTC Chairman Seilam Singsit, as well as members of the Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organisation and Kangpokpi Youth Union, also graced the event, signalling broad community support for the initiative.


In his address, Brig. Tripathi lauded the organisers and participants, emphasising that the Assam Rifles will continue leveraging sports and youth engagement as effective tools to build stronger community ties, bridge divisions, and promote long-lasting peace in the Northeast.


Outstanding individual performances were also honoured, with Ibrahim alias Athoi of KMT Jangnoi named Best Player of the Tournament, receiving a trophy, certificate, medal, and a cash prize of ₹5,000. The runners-up, Danger Boys, were awarded a trophy, certificates, medals, and ₹20,000 in prize money, while champions KMT Jangnoi received a trophy, certificates, medals, and Rs 30,000.
