Manipur: Kuki MLAs, including 7 from BJP, claim state government failed to protect people, demand separate administration

In a major development to the going Manipur violence, the N Biren Singh-led- BJP government have received a major jolt.

Ten Manipuri legislators including seven from the saffron party belonging to the Kuki community have asserted that the state of Manipur has failed miserably to protect its people.

Further, the MLAs have now demanded the Union of India for a separate administration under the constitution of India in order to live peacefully as neighbours within the state of Manipur.

The legislators further  alleged that the unabated violence which began on May 3, 2023, in Manipur has been allegedly perpetrated by the majority Meiteis tactically supported by the existing government of Manipur against the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi hill tribals.

"Our people can no longer exist under Manipur as the hatred against our tribal community reached such a height that MLAs, Ministers, pastors, police and civil officers, laymen, women and even children were not spared., not to mention the destruction of places of worship, homes and properties. To live amidst the Meitei again is as good as death for our people," stated the release.

Therefore as elected representatives of the people of the Kuki community, the legislators had represented the sentiments of the people and endorsed their political asperation of separation from the state of Manipur.

"We have decided to hold a political consultation with our people at the earliest regarding further steps to be taken by us as a people," said the release undersigned by the legislators.

It is to be mentioned here that just days ahead of the violence, as many as four MLAs of the Biren Singh government resigned from their respective roles mostly due to "personal grounds"
