Manipur: Kuki women body hands over 9th phase of ‘Jangna Dopna’ relief at KIM assembly in Kangpokpi

The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) on Wednesday, December 3 distributed the ninth phase of the ‘Jangna Dopna’ humanitarian relief initiative during the General Assembly of the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), held at Hengbung Village in Sadar Hills.

The initiative, aimed at supporting families affected by the ongoing Manipur conflict, was launched in 2024 and continues to serve as a symbol of collective resilience and solidarity within the Kuki-Zo community.

Saikul MLA Kimneo Hangshing, senior Kuki leaders, and members of various civil society organisations attended the solemn programme that coincided with the commemoration of Kuki-Zo Remembrance Day-cum-Separation Day.

KWOHR President Ngaineikim Haokip highlighted that the project offers Rs 1 lakh in financial assistance, along with a traditional Saipikhup shawl and a commemorative memento to each bereaved family. The entire support fund is voluntarily contributed by Kuki women from the hill districts and the global diaspora, reflecting the community’s commitment to self-reliance amid adversity.

With the ninth phase completed, support has now been extended to 185 conflict-affected families across Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and other districts. KWOHR stated that efforts remain underway to reach remaining families who continue to bear the emotional and economic burden of the prolonged crisis.

The organisation reaffirmed that ‘Jangna Dopna’ stands as a tribute to the courage of grieving families and the unwavering spirit of Kuki women who have taken the lead in upholding dignity during a period of immense hardship.

As part of the evening session, participants also observed Remembrance Day-cum-Separation Day, honouring the Kuki-Zo martyrs with a candlelight vigil. Notably, unlike previous years when shutdowns and closures were enforced, this year’s observance witnessed no such restrictions.
