Manipur: Medical camp organized in Sita village after over 70 students fall ill, Assam Rifles, doctors step in

A mega medical camp was conducted in Sita village after more than 70 students of Sita Government High School fell ill due to a suspected outbreak of typhoid or mosquito-borne infection. The urgent intervention aimed to provide immediate treatment and curb further spread of the illness.

The medical relief camp was organized following an appeal from the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), Tengnoupal District. Responding promptly, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Tengnoupal, Dr. P. Angkhong Rongmei, dispatched a team of three doctors, a pharmacist, and medical staff from the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) Tengnoupal Block, along with personnel from PHSC Sita.

In a significant show of support, the 3 Assam Rifles, Tengnoupal Battalion, deployed additional doctors to strengthen the medical team and extend comprehensive care to the affected students. The presence of the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Tengnoupal District, at the camp highlighted the gravity of the crisis.

Altogether, about 150 patients—including both students and villagers—were examined and given free medicines during the camp. The swift medical response helped reassure the community, which had been in a state of fear since the outbreak.

Expressing gratitude, Apao Serto, Headmaster of Sita Government High School, thanked the Deputy Commissioner Tengnoupal, the district medical team, ZEO, and KSO Tengnoupal for coordinating the relief measures. He also urged authorities to conduct a comprehensive survey to trace the root cause of the outbreak and ensure long-term preventive mechanisms.
