Manipur: Missing differently-abled man found dead in Imphal West

A 29-year-old differently-abled man, who was allegedly abducted by members of the Meitei group Arambai Tenggol (AT), was found dead on Tuesday morning near the Nambul riverbank between Samurou and Thounaojam in Imphal West.

The incident has triggered tensions in the Paobitek area.

According to a statement issued by Manipur Police on their official social media page, the investigation into the missing case of Chesam Abdul Kadir of Paobitek Mayai Leikai led to the discovery of his death.

Police revealed that Kadir had been buried at an undisclosed location. His body was exhumed on Tuesday in the presence of an executive magistrate, a forensic team, and family members.

A criminal case has been registered, and police have assured a thorough investigation.

The public has been urged to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and avoid spreading or believing in rumours.

Condemning the brutal killing, local residents took to the streets demanding immediate action against those responsible. Police used tear gas to disperse the agitated crowd, who responded by pelting stones and using slingshots.

So far, nine suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, including six identified as members of Arambai Tenggol. Police have vowed that all those involved will be brought to justice.

Chesam Abdul Kadir was reported missing on June 11.
