Manipur: Missing woman found dead in Imphal West after 13-day search

A 42-year-old woman who had been reported missing for nearly two weeks was found dead at Heirangoithong in Manipur’s Imphal West district on February 10, triggering concern and distress across the local community.

The deceased has been identified as Seram Ningol Salam Ongbi Niroda Devi, wife of Salam Tomba Singh, a resident of Wakeithel Lamdong Leikai in Imphal West.

Family members said Niroda Devi left her home at around 1:57 am on January 28 without informing anyone and did not return. All attempts to contact or trace her thereafter failed, prompting relatives to launch an extensive search.

She was described as about five feet tall, slim, with a medium complexion. At the time she went missing, she was reportedly wearing a red phanek, a red-and-yellow shawl, white socks and slippers.

Despite sustained efforts by the family and local residents, no leads emerged until her body was discovered on February 10. The circumstances under which she died remain unclear.

Police have registered a case and begun an investigation to establish the cause of death and reconstruct the events between her disappearance and the recovery of her body. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
