Manipur: Mother of Lamnunthem Singson collapses after learning daughter died in Air India plane crash

The tragic Air India flight crash that claimed the lives of 270 people, including 12 crew members, has left a trail of sorrow across the nation. Among the deceased was 26-year-old Lamnunthem Singson, a young cabin crew member from Kangpokpi, Manipur, whose life was abruptly cut short.

Her brothers arrived in Ahmedabad late Friday evening to submit DNA samples in a desperate attempt to confirm their sister’s identity. According to family sources, the DNA testing is expected to be conducted on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

Back home, in their modest rented house, a somber stillness gripped the air. The family, especially Lamnunthem's widowed mother, Nemneilhing Singson, had been holding onto hope—believing her daughter might be fighting for life in a hospital intensive care unit. To protect her fragile heart, the devastating truth had been withheld.

But by Saturday noon, the heartbreaking news could no longer be concealed.

Upon learning that her only daughter had perished in the crash, Nemneilhing collapsed, overwhelmed by anguish and disbelief. Her cries echoed through the household, now engulfed in unimaginable sorrow. Friends, neighbors, and well-wishers arrived, offering condolences—but no words could fill the void.

For days, the family mourned in silence, their pain suppressed out of reverence and fear. It was only after the mother learned the truth that sorrow was expressed openly, with grieving hearts finally finding release.

On Friday morning, CRPF DIG Manish Kumar Sachar visited the bereaved family. Expressing his deep condolences, he said, "No words can ever ease the pain of a mother who has lost her child."

Later that evening, the Thadou Baptist Association (TBA) Church in Kangpokpi—where Lamnunthem, lovingly called Neonu by her family, once sang hymns—held a special condolence service. Church members and residents gathered in solemn unity, singing hymns and offering prayers for the departed soul.

Through teary voices and trembling hands, they paid tribute to a life full of promise and dreams. A life that had only begun to take flight.
