Manipur police destroys 59 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Ukhrul and Kangpokpi, two arrested

The Manipur police has destroyed 59 acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts, intensifying the war against drugs, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh informed on his X handle.  
 

In Ukhrul, the police arrested two individuals and destroyed 45 acres of illegal poppy cultivation at Mapithel hill range in Phungyar. The arrests were made after a joint operation was launched in collaboration with the forest department, Border Security Force (BSF), and the district administration. 
 

The arrested individuals have been identified as Letkhohao Haokip (37) and Hegou Khongsai (30) from Ukhrul.
 

In a separate operation, the personnel destroyed 14 acres of illegal poppy plantations near Thonglang Akutpa in Kangpokpi district.
 

An FIR was filed and action has been initiated against those indulging in illegal poppy plantations, as per officials.
 

Lauding the security forces for their efforts, Chief Minister N Biren Singh posted on X, "I appreciate the combined team of Kangpokpi district police and 90 CRPF personnel, led by Additional SP (L/O) under the supervision of SP Kangpokpi, for destroying 14 acres of illegal poppy plantations near Thonglang Akutpa and registering an FIR for further investigation."
 

Furthermore, the chief minister also appreciated the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for their "exceptional contributions". 
 

The chief minister said, "These actions reaffirm the State and the Union government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating drug threats and advancing the war on drugs campaign."
