Manipur: Protestors burn effigies of 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs in Imphal East district

Marking the completion of one year of violence allegedly against Meiteis, protestors took to the street to burn down effigies of 10 Kuki MLAs at Pangei Yangdong on May 3.

The effigies were burnt during a protest demonstration organised by PYAL, Thougei Pangei Yangdong, PYYDA and WWA Pangei.

People from different areas also took part in the demonstration.

As a part of the protest, the gathering paid homage to Haobijam Somenkumar and Okram Sanaton from the locality and other martyrs who have lost their lives for the cause of Manipur by standing for two minutes silent.

The protesters expressed their dissatisfaction against the government not enforcing the law in the hill and valley districts of the State equally.

One of the protestors alleged that the Kuki MLAs were one of the main reasons to create conflict in the state, hence their effigies were burnt down.

Concerning the future of youths who have taken up arms to defend Meitei villages from armed militants, they urged the Government to end the violence and restore normalcy in Manipur in the state at the earliest.
