Manipur: Relief reaches displaced Kuki-Zo families after Litan violence
Fresh displacement following the recent violence in Litan has left several Kuki-Zo families from villages in Ukhrul district struggling for basic necessities, prompting local intervention to address immediate food shortages.
Saitu Assembly Constituency MLA Haokholet Kipgen facilitated the supply of 20 bags of rice along with essential relief materials for families currently sheltering in the Saikul region. The assistance was handed over to the Relief Committee of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) at its Kangpokpi office before being transported for distribution.
Leaders of CoTU coordinated the movement of the materials to ensure the aid reached affected households without delay. Many of the displaced include elderly persons, women and children, with reports indicating disrupted livelihoods and growing food insecurity.
Community representatives said the relief was intended to ease immediate hardship as uncertainty persists in violence-affected areas. Several families are reportedly staying in temporary arrangements after fleeing their homes amid tensions in Litan.
Civil society groups have reiterated that while emergency assistance remains critical, long-term rehabilitation and restoration of peace are essential to prevent further displacement. Calls for stronger security measures and sustained humanitarian support have intensified following the latest unrest.
The Litan incident has once again drawn attention to the fragile security situation in parts of Manipur, where recurring tensions continue to impact vulnerable communities.
