In an emergency meeting held at Kanggui today, The Committee on Tribal Unity strongly condemned the unprovoked attack at Haraothel and Kobsha village, Kangpokpi district, by the Meitei insurgents.
In the attack, two innocent Kuki-Zo villagers, namely, Henminlen Vaiphei, son of Luntinlal Vaiphei, Mission Veng Leimakhong and Thangminlun Hangshing, son of Lunkhongam Hangshing, Khunkho village were brutally killed.
The Committee unanimously declared an emergency shutdown in Kangpokpi district to convey to the Union Government that we are no longer safe under the partisan Government.
The meeting called for an early materialisation of the demand for separation from Manipur.
Press, emergencies and CoTU units will be exempted from the shutdown.
If the repeated appeals of the Kuki-Zo community had been heard by the Union Home Ministry, series of unfortunate incident could have been avoided. The Union Home Ministry must take into account the continuous attacks and that political separation is the only option left now.
