Manipur's Ereimang Band enthralls attendees at 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal film festival
Manipur-based Ereimang band delivered a mesmerising performance on the third day of the 2nd Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival at City Convention Centre, on February 8, enthralling attendees.
Their debut single 'Kwakta Lamjel (March 2023), is adapted from the episode 'Kwakta Lamjel' (The Race at Kwakta) from the epic 'Khamba Thoibi', traditionally sung by minstrels with the Pena (a musical instrument). It narrates a race between Khamba and Nongban.
Here, the dancer is portraying as a shaman in a trance, embodying a god playing polo during the Lai Haraoba ritual of the Meitei community.
Ereimang is a musical project that blends traditional Manipuri folk elements with alternative noise-rock and metal.
Earlier, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reiterated the government's commitment to nurturing a vibrant cinematic culture in the state after two years, as he extended an invitation to attend the 2nd edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) 2025.
The festival will screen 56 films over a period of four days, from February 6 to 9.
Taking to his official X handle, the Manipur chief minister stated that the festival unites international and regional cinema on one platform.
