Manipur's Jadumani Singh settles for Commonwealth Games boxing silver; Preeti, Jaismine strike gold

Manipur boxer Jadumani Singh won the silver medal in the men's 55 kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games on Saturday, August 1, after going down 0-5 to Australia's Jye Dixon in the final.
 

Jadumani made a strong start to the bout, edging the opening round 3-2 against his taller opponent. However, Dixon fought back to dominate the second round before maintaining his momentum in the decider to clinch the gold medal.
 

The Manipuri boxer had stormed into the final after registering a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Namibia's Philip Haoseb in the semifinals.
 

Despite missing out on gold, Jadumani said he was proud of his achievement and determined to come back stronger.
 

"It feels really good. I'm very happy to have won a silver medal in my first Commonwealth Games. Although I didn't achieve exactly what I wanted, I will focus even harder for the next competition and bring home the gold," he said after the final.
 

"The plan is to head back and resume our training camp. I'll work on correcting the mistakes I made in this competition and improve further. I'd like to dedicate this medal to my uncle, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), the Sports Authority of India (SAI), all of India, our team coaches, and the Army Sports Institute (ASI), where I've lived since childhood," he added.
 

Meanwhile, India celebrated two boxing gold medals on the day, with Preeti Pawar defeating Canada's Scarlett Delgado 5-0 in the women's 54 kg final and reigning world champion Jaismine Lamboria outclassing Northern Ireland's Michaela Walsh by an identical margin in the women's 57 kg final.
