Manipur’s Litan violence unfortunate, action must be taken against those involved: MP Bimol Akoijam
Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam on February 10, expressed concern over the recent violence at Litan in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, terming the incident unfortunate and calling for strict action against those involved.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of SpiceJet’s new flight launch ceremony at Bir Tikendrajit Imphal International Airport, the MP said the violence had only worsened the situation and caused suffering to innocent people.
“The violence that erupted at Litan is unfortunate. Such incidents only lead to further escalation instead of bringing any sense of resolution. The government must take appropriate steps to ensure that the situation does not deteriorate further,” Bimol said.
He stressed that violence benefits no one and only affects civilians caught in the conflict.
Expressing concern over reports of armed men roaming freely in the violence-hit area, Bimol questioned the enforcement of the ground rules under the Suspension of Operations agreement signed with militant groups.
“What has happened to the ground rules of the Suspension of Operations? Armed men should not be roaming around freely,” he said, urging the authorities to act firmly to restore normalcy.
The MP reiterated the need for accountability and effective measures to prevent further unrest in the region.
