Manipur’s Ngamba Longjam wins Super Bantamweight title in Bangkok

In a significant achievement for Manipur’s sporting fraternity, Ngamba Longjam from Keishamthong Longjam Leirak in Imphal West clinched the six-round Super Bantamweight Championship at an international boxing event held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Ngamba secured the title on February 14 at the “Heart of Steel: A Highland Boxing Promotion Presentation,” organised by Highland Boxing Promotion at the Highland Boxing Gym in Bangkok.

Competing in the Super Bantamweight category, Ngamba defeated his opponent from Myanmar in the six-round bout to claim the championship, representing India on the international stage.

The young boxer, son of Longjam Hemjit and Longjam Ongbi Bhabini, has nurtured a passion for boxing from an early age. Over the years, he has built an impressive record, winning multiple titles at the state, national and international levels through sustained discipline and rigorous training.

His latest triumph has been widely celebrated in his hometown. Members of the Keishamthong Longjam Leirak Development Club (KLLDC) and local Meira Paibi groups expressed pride in his accomplishment and extended congratulations to the rising champion.

Ngamba’s victory adds to Manipur’s growing reputation as a powerhouse in Indian boxing and further strengthens the state’s presence in the international boxing circuit.
