Mega medical camp brings healthcare relief to displaced tribal families in Manipur's Kangpokpi
A large-scale medical outreach was conducted at the Leikop DIET Centre in Kangpokpi District on Friday as part of the upcoming Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas 2025. The camp delivered essential healthcare to hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) currently sheltering at the facility, marking a key step in improving public health among displaced tribal communities.
Organised by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Government of Manipur, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kangpokpi, and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the initiative formed part of nationwide observances honouring India’s tribal freedom fighters. Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas, celebrated annually on 15 November, pays tribute to the legacy of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the enduring contributions of tribal communities to India’s cultural and national identity.
This year’s commemoration carries added significance, marking both the fifth Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The medical camp focused on providing free consultations, treatment, and medicines to IDPs. A multidisciplinary team of doctors—Dr. Chongnu Haokip (MO i/c PHC Kalapahar), Dr S. Dimngel (ENT), Dr J. Touthang (Paediatrics), Dr. Archana Nayak (Obstetrics & Gynaecology, DPR RIMS), and Dr Angelin Francis T. (General Medicine, DPR RIMS)—attended to patients under the supervision of Dr Paokai Kipgen, CMO Kangpokpi.
The TRI, Manipur, ensured full logistical support, including transport, meals, and refreshments for all participants and beneficiaries. Officials from both TRI and the District Health Department hailed the event as a meaningful demonstration of service and solidarity.
The initiative not only expanded healthcare access for displaced tribal families but also reinforced the essence of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas—honouring courage, unity, and the enduring legacy of India’s tribal heroes.
