One protester killed, around 20 injured as security forces open fire near CRPF camp in Manipur
One protester was killed and around 20 others were injured after security personnel allegedly opened fire while attempting to disperse a mob near a CRPF camp at Moirang Tronglaobi Maning Leikai in Bishnupur district, officials and locals said.
The incident occurred after a large number of protesters gathered and attempted to storm a camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), following the earlier bomb attack in the same area that killed two children and injured their mother.
According to reports, security personnel fired multiple rounds and used smoke bombs to disperse the crowd. During the confrontation, one person was killed and nearly 20 others sustained injuries. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals for treatment.
Protesters alleged that they no longer feel safe despite the presence of security forces in the area. Questioning the response of the forces, they claimed that the CRPF camp was located close to the site of the earlier attack.
“How could suspected militants carry out such an attack, killing two children and injuring their mother, despite the presence of security forces nearby?” one protester said, adding that the forces should leave if they are unable to ensure safety.
