Protest in Imphal condemns Tronglaobi bomb attack, questions security response

A sit-in protest was held at Thangmeiband in Imphal West, condemning the deadly bomb attack in Tronglaobi, Bishnupur district, which left two children dead and their mother injured. Residents, including a number of young children, gathered to express anger over the incident and the broader security situation.

Demonstrations have continued in several areas despite a curfew imposed from 9 am. Protesters said the attack has intensified fear among civilians already living under prolonged tension.

Placards carried at the protest called for accountability, with slogans demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Manipur, along with criticism directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Some also raised calls for stronger action against armed groups, reflecting growing frustration among sections of the public.

One protester described the bombing as an incident that “must be condemned at the highest level”, adding that it “once again proves the failure of the government to protect life and property of people of the state.”

Speakers at the gathering said residents have “had to endure such tragedy for long” and are forced to live with a constant sense of insecurity.

“Those innocent children were killed while sleeping, not by travelling to any sensitive areas. If people are not safe even at home, how are we going to live our life,” a protester said, questioning the effectiveness of security arrangements.

Participants also pointed to the presence of central forces in the area, noting that a security camp is located near the site of the blast. They questioned the purpose of such deployment if incidents of this nature can occur in close proximity.

The protesters demanded swift justice for the victims and said the loss of lives should not be reduced to compensation alone, urging authorities to ensure accountability and prevent further attacks.
