State and Centre putting all efforts for safe release of two kidnapped youths: Manipur CM N Biren Singh

At the observance ceremony marking the 128th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Hijam Irabot, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh voiced grave concern over the abduction of two youths by suspected Kuki militants. Singh assured that both the state and central governments are making concerted efforts to secure their safe release.

Addressing the media during the event held at Irawat Square, Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Singh revealed that while one youth had been freed, two others remain in captivity, having lost contact with their families. "The situation is deeply unfortunate," the Chief Minister remarked, adding that the Director General of Police (DGP) had been dispatched to negotiate with the relevant parties.

Singh stressed that the state and centre are fully committed to their rescue, urging the families of the victims to remain composed in these difficult times. 

Reflecting on the occasion, the Chief Minister called on the younger generation to emulate Hijam Irabot’s enduring legacy. "Irabot's contributions to the social, political, and economic spheres, as well as to the freedom struggle, remain invaluable," he stated. He further emphasized the need to realize Irabot’s vision of unity and emotional integrity among Manipur’s diverse communities.

It is noteworthy that Hijam Irabot was a prominent freedom fighter who opposed British colonial rule, a politician, and a founding leader of the Communist Party of India in Manipur. His influence extended beyond politics, contributing to literature, sports, and social justice for the marginalized.
