Thousands hold public convention at Khuman Lampak as Manipur marks two years of crisis

A large public convention was held at the Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, in Imphal, Manipur to mark two years since the onset of the Manipur crisis.

Organized by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), the event drew significant crowds, reflecting the ongoing concerns and collective resolve of the people.

The gathering commemorated the victims of the ethnic violence that began in May 2023, with floral tributes offered in memory of those who lost their lives.

Speakers at the event emphasised unity, peace, and justice, showcasing the resilience of the affected communities and urging a resolution to the prolonged conflict.

The crisis, rooted in ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, has led to widespread violence, displacement, and allegations of human rights violations. Over 60,000 people have reportedly been displaced, and numerous lives lost in the two-year-long unrest.

Attendees at the convention reiterated their demands for government accountability, peace-building efforts, and protection of Manipur’s territorial and cultural integrity.

Leaders from various communities also took part in the public meeting. Following the convention, the committee announced its decision to adopt a resolution, which will be submitted to Central leaders.
