Tronglaobi bomb attack probe underway, search operations continue: Manipur Minister
The investigation into the deadly bomb attack at Tronglaobi in Manipur’s Bishnupur district is currently underway, with search operations still ongoing, State Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam said on April 11.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 176th death anniversary observance of Maharaja Nara Singh held at Kangla Fort, the minister said authorities are actively pursuing leads but declined to share further details, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Responding to queries on the tragic incident, Konthoujam stated that security forces have intensified operations in the area following the blast and efforts are continuing to trace those responsible.
Addressing public demands to replace central forces with state forces in peripheral areas, the Home Minister said the government is considering a phased shift. “We are trying to redeploy some central forces to the upper hill areas and replace them with state forces. However, due to manpower constraints, immediate replacement is challenging,” he said.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of April 7, involved a bomb attack at a residence in Tronglaobi, killing two children while they were asleep and leaving their mother injured. The presence of a CRPF camp near the site has sparked widespread outrage.
Following the attack, protests erupted in the region, with demonstrators condemning the incident and demanding that central forces vacate the area. Many have called for greater deployment of state forces, citing concerns over local security and accountability.
The situation remains tense as security agencies continue their operations and the investigation progresses.
