‘Wake Up or Step Down’: Youth Congress storms CM secretariat gate over Manipur crisis

Members of the Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee attempted to march towards the Chief Minister’s Secretariat while staging a protest demonstration condemning the prolonged conflict situation in Manipur.

During the protest, several members, including Youth Congress President W. Anand, were detained by police personnel.

The protesters raised slogans demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, alleging that the BJP has failed to protect the people of Manipur.

Heavy security deployment was seen in and around the protest site as police intervened to prevent the demonstrators from advancing towards the Secretariat.

The protesters knocked on the gate of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, stating that it was “high time to wake them up”.

The protesters claimed that the present government had completely collapsed and failed to protect innocent lives. They alleged that even after three years, people continue to die and go missing instead of peace being restored in the state.

“The leaders have become completely deaf and dumb. It is high time to make them awake,” protesters said.

“We are here to awake the sleeping CM, not to scuffle or fight with security personnel,” they expressed.

The protesters further alleged that leaders were focusing more on retaining ministerial positions rather than addressing the concerns of the land and its people.

They also said that if leaders were no longer able to ensure the safety and security of civilians, they should resign on moral grounds.

Expressing anguish over the situation in Manipur, the protesters questioned the continued deterioration in conditions and raised slogans including “Down Down BJP” during the demonstration.
