‘We want to go home, govt should help,’ says Kuki community during Meitei MLA’s visit

During a visit from Imphal to Kamjong, MLA Yumnam Khemchand Singh highlighted emotional appeals from members of the Kuki community seeking to return to their homes, urging the government to facilitate their rehabilitation.

BJP MLA and former state rural development minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, 61, first went to Litan in the Naga-dominant Ukhrul district.

Accompanied by a small team, he spoke to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Kuki community.

His aides said the MLA inquired about the hardships they have been enduring in relief camps.

The displaced families also expressed a strong desire to rebuild their lives and return home with government support.

“When we met everyone from the Kuki community, they said they wanted to go home, and the government should help,” the MLA noted, explaining that tensions have disrupted lives and futures, and peace must be restored to enable rehabilitation.
