At least 22 coal-laden trucks were found "abandoned" on the NH-6 by the East Jaintia Hills district administration.
Additional Deputy Commissioner S Syiemliehin in a complaint said that on November 12 he found 22 trucks parked on the highway without any drivers or handymen.
After the police reached the trucks, they found that these trucks were "over loaded" with coal. The trucks were immediately seized by the police.
Out of the 22 seized trucks, eighteen trucks had Assam registrations, two had Meghalaya registration, one from Nagaland while one truck was registered in West Bengal.
Sylvester Nongtnger, SP, EJH, said that they are trying to trace the owners but they are facing problems as there were no drivers or any else with the trucks. They are trying to verify the registration of the trucks as well.
