Another earthquake hits Northeast, measures 4.3 on Richter scale in Meghalaya

The National Center for Seismology, Ministry of Earth Sciences said that an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit Manipur on the morning of June 3^rd, 2020. The epicentre of the quake was 82 km South-West from Cherrapunjee in Meghalaya at a depth of 55 km. The earthquake occurred at 7:10 am Indian Standard Time, the center added.

A day before, on June 2^nd, 2020 an earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale hit Manipur. The epicentre of the quake was 185 km East of Ukhrul in Manipur and at a depth of 100 km. The earthquake occurred at 7:14 am Indian Standard Time, the center added.

Later at 8:18 am, another aftershock measuring 3 on the Richter scale was felt in the state. The epicentre of this quake was 34 km northwest of Imphal in Manipur at a depth of 23 km. The earthquake occurred at 8.18 pm Indian Standard Time.

As per information, there were no reports of loss of life or damage to property.

On May 25^th, an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale had hit Manipur. The epicentre of the quake was 13 km south of Moirang town in Manipur at a depth of 40 km. The earthquake occurred at 8.12 pm Indian Standard Time. Tremors were felt in Bangladesh and Myanmar too.

The seismology centre also recorded one aftershock. It took place at 8.25 pm, 39 km West-Southwest of Moirang, at a depth of 20 km underground. The aftershock measured just 2.9 on the Richter scale.

There have been some minor earthquakes in the country over the past two months. A low-intensity earthquake measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale hit Delhi on May 10th, 2020. Its epicentre was Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. A mild earthquake hit the national capital on April 12, also measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. There was no loss of life or property.
