Finally there’s some breakthrough in the Meghalaya mine tragedy as rescuers were able to retrieve an unidentified body of one of the 15 miners from the Ksan coal mine who have been trapped inside since December 13, 2018.

In a joint operation of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indian Navy were able to retrieve the unidentified body of trapped miner from main shaft Ksan rat hole mine Number 26 at around 3 PM.

Five people, in two different shifts, went down into the main shaft and amid all the hardship and dedicated efforts; finally the body was recovered from 183 feet 9 inches air column and about 170 feet water column.

The packed body was pulled out from the shaft at about 3 PM and was handed over to officer in charge PS Saipung in presence of civil administration district, East Jaintia Hills.

The body was further dispatched to civil hospital Khliehriat for post mortem and further necessary action.

Rescue operations are still on to retrieve the bodies of other 14 miners.
