Metbah Lyngdoh has been elected as the new Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker on Friday.
Earlier Lyngdohresigned from the post of Tourism and Water Resources Minister. Metbah who was a senior member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) was also elected as the UDP president on September 12. He is a three-time legislator.

He contested against opposition candidate, Winnerson D Sangma of Congress.

The three-time MLA from Mairang assembly constituency in East Khasi Hills district was earlier this week elected president of his party, and also the chairman of the Regional Democratic Alliance.
The House, which took up 62 items on the concluding day, was adjourned sine-die.
