TURA: Staging a dramatic comeback in Meghalaya, the Congress party has been able to win the majority of Seats in the Garo Council polls in a see-saw contest with Conrad Sangma-led National People's Party.
The Congress party has won 12 seats in the GHADC election, while NPP won 11 seats.
Out of 29 seats, Congress managed to pull 12 seats with a win in – Kharkutta, Rongrong, Kharkutta, Samandagre, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Betasing, Amongpara, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Batabari and Balachanda.
NPP won Bolsong, Darugre, Nogorpara, Siju, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang.
BJP won the prestigious seat of Tura and Barengapara.
Dipul Marak, the incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) of GHADC (Garo Hills Autonomous District Council) and candidate from Rochonpara constituency, has lost the election to independent candidate Arbinestone Marak.
The fate of all aspiring MDCs who contested the GHADC polls on April 12 across 29 constituencies will be decided today as counting is underway in five district headquarters of Garo Hills.

The process of vote count will begin with the opening of the postal ballots in each of the constituencies where the ballot was cast.
“Counting will commence at 8 am with the postal ballots first getting counted. Thirty minutes later, the EVM vote count process will start,” informed Ram Singh, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer for 13 MDC seats, the largest number of constituencies in a district.
Counting of votes for 13 constituencies of West Garo Hills is taking place at the SMELC building complex of the government located opposite the Commissioner of Divisions office and Chief Minister’s special office in Dakopgre, Tura.
Both leading parties in the state, the Congress and the NPP, earlier exuded confidence of victory with each side claiming double-digit seats.
