As expected, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma won the South Tura Assembly by-election defeating his nearest Congress rival John Leslee Sangma by 13,656 votes on Monday.
He was contesting the by-election as a ruling National People's Party (NPP) candidate.
The counting of votes for the South Tura and Ranikor Assembly by-elections in Meghalaya began at 8 am on Monday.
The South Tura Assembly seat has 30,231 voters, which include 14,846 male, 15,351 female, 33 service and one NRI voters.
Besides Conrad and John, the third person in the fray was Chris Kabul A Sangma, who contested as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, counting for the by-election in the Ranikor constituency was on till the filing of this report and the result is expected to be out later today.
