A huge cache of arms and ammunition, belonging to proscribed Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), was recovered by East Garo Hills Police from the jungles of Rongbokgre and Nengmandalgre on Wednesday.
A police official informed that they seized one AK series rifle, two SBBL rifles, two magazines, one .303 LMG magazine, two INSAS magazines, two remote controls for IED, 11 time bomb circuits, 12 RC bomb circuits, 46 WT set headphones, four tactical pistol holsters, Velcro tape rolls, a large number of fresh GNLA demand notes and receipt books.
The raid was carried out based on specific inputs. The police suspected the weapons were hidden by close associates of slain GNLA chief Sohan D Shira.
The police said there were possibilities that some overground workers were carrying out extortion in the name of the rebel group.
