The two Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya, Tura, and Shillong, are expected to be contested between the Congress and the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance.
Making the announcement on Monday, Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has also announced United Democratic Party’s Jemino Mawthow as the Lok Sabha contender from Shillong.
While addressing the press after the end of the meeting, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said: "The MDA has unanimously taken a decision on fielding a common candidate from both Shillong and Tura seats."
Meanwhile, the BJP, which is also a part of the MDA Alliance, has decided to field two candidates for both the constituencies. The Congress will field former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma from the Tura Constituency, whereas Vincent Pala will represent Congress hopes in Shillong.
