Meghalaya chief minister reviews proposed Corona Care Centres in the state

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inspected the buildings to be converted into makeshift Corona Care Centres in Shillong.

So far, the state govenment has identified three locations for the centres.

One is the Basic Training Centre located at Malki which a has a capacity for a minimum of 100 beds.

To handle male and female patients separately , the main building and women’s building of the Industrial Training Institute at Rynjah has been suggested which will be converted into two Corona care centres for male and female separately.

Both the buildings have a combined capacity of around 45 beds.

The third location is the District Commerce and Industries Centre at Nongrim Hills which can accommodate around 60 beds.

All the three locations have the capacity for expansion to accommodate more beds in the future.

The Chief Minister informed that the Corona Care Centres will be equipped with oxygen cylinders and concentrators to cater to the needs of covid patients.

He further said that he has given instructions to officials to take immediate steps for handling the necessary infrastructure and manpower needs in the facilities.

In the meeting with Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Minister instructed officials to intensify vaccination efforts by selecting vulnerable locations.

Sangma further instructed officials to take a target based and focused approach and to intensify monitoring in every district as vaccination is the key strategy in fighting the virus
