Meghalaya: Classes 9-12 to fully reopen from Nov 30

SHILLONG: After a lengthy break due to the COVID-19, classes 9-12 will fully re-open in schools outside containment zones in both urban and rural areas across Meghalaya from November 30 as per guidelines and direction

“The reopening of this category is aimed at the completion of courses and preparation for the Board Examinations,” the notification, signed by principal secretary (Education), Donald Philips Wahlang stated.

It needs mention here that the education department of the state has also permitted full re-opening of Classes 6-8 in rural areas and partial re-opening in urban and semi-urban areas that include towns of Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Tura, Byrnihat, Jorabad and Khanapara area.

While the education department has also recommended partial reopening of Classes 1-5 in the rural areas, the same would continue to remain closed in the urban and semi-urban areas where the case rate of the COVID-19 is higher. The students, however, will be allowed to attend only after consulting their parents.

Meghalaya's Education Minister has stated that the penetration of "online studies is only about 30 per cent.”

After the long COVID-19 shutdown, the states have started reopening schools in a graded manner, mostly for Classes 9 to 12.
